YOU WILL LOSE YOUR CUSTOMERS IN 5 YEARS TIME IF YOU ARE NOT SMART
(Netflix is smart but Apple is smarter)
Kudos to Netflix for their very intelligent business model. I have gone through it over and over again. While at this time, they would have issues with the African market just like iroko TV due to our low purchased power, they area maximizing other countries.
Well, at first they would mail you the movies you want I think through CD's, yet they were not making so much. They almost ran bankrupt once.
The era of the internet became so obvious and they jumped on the train. Just like the amazon business model, they were a platform where you were given the choice to get series of movies at a cheaper rate through subscription plans.
Now that sounds cool right. I would call their business model the "shared economy" where they bring movie producers or movies to movie viewers. If you've been observant, you'd notice that this shared economy is good as also as bad.
It's good in the sense that you can easily abscond from risk, the likes of uber, lyft, udemy, airb n b and a host of numerous many. It worked but I personally feel it has so much limitations as regards regulations.
Airb n b is facing regulations in South Africa, uber in some countries etc. Let's not delve into that.
The focus is on how smart Netflix became. When I began seeing ads on instagram that Netflix now has their own movies, I was damn impressed. Smart move right?
They began buying movies from different continents, Africa, china etc. They were both buying huge attention but wanted their customers to remain on board.
Amazon is doing same, it is moving from just being the link between buyers and sellers to being a seller themselves. Remarkable isn't it!! Check out Amazon Go!
Back to Netflix, I would practically say that company is smart and they are gradually dominating the entertainment industry without first starting with entertainment.
However, something threw me back when I watched on star times that Apple is planning on releasing Apple TV. I haven't made findings but I saw it somewhere else on LinkedIn.
Fine, Apple sells because of its philosophy but Netflix taking over the streaming world "might" make apple less of an ostentation good. I said might. This is why I said so;
To see a Netflix movie, you don't have to be an iPhone user, so far I can stream conveniently...
That might be very lame, fine.
But the astonishing fact is that Apple TV would be restricted to iPhone users alone and other channels of watching entertainment blocked except they go through Apple TV. This means if they do such, Netflix would lose a huge chunk of their customers if they don't subscribe to Apple TV.
If all these is true, then Apple is very smart to hold onto the market and I also watched that they plan on totally monopolising every service on the phone. They already have the customers. They are taking hold of every channel to be the gateway.
Whether it might bore it's users, I don't know but I feel it's a good move.
