The Story Of The Chef And The Cook

ONCE UPON A TIME,

The chef and the cook lived together happily ever after.

Then the fourth industrial revolution came and the cook lost her job.

The fourth industrial revolution is what we're in presently and it's an era where machines gain intelligence to work on their own.

An era where devices can communicate with themselves when a human is not around.

If you've watched Toy stories you should relate well. Your fan would whisper to the chairs and say :

Fan: Hey guys, how are you doing today

Table and chair : Man, it's hot in here

Fan: Oh, copy that, I'll switch to the third number and make you guys comfortable.

That's the world we live in currently and it is no news that they are taking human jobs.

But how many human jobs can they take?

Well, let's go back to the Chef and the Cook...

The cook has lost his/her job and the Chef is still happily employed.

Why?

The Chef creates the recipes and the cook cooks it.

In this age, anything productivity is handled by machines.

We already have different companies where you just order for the food you want and in three minutes, the food would be delivered to you.

This is how it works: A robotic cook/pot would select the ingredients based on the food you cook and in three minutes, the food is cooked.

Another robotic waiter would come over to your table and deliver it to you.

The cook and waiter have lost their jobs but the Chef cannot.

This is simply because the Chef would still be the one to come up with new recipes, new tastes of food.

This is what it boils down to

1. When it comes to productivity : Humans have lost the battle, the machines have won.

2. Creativity is what is left of us and those are where our old jobs should depend on and emanate from.

3. Any human competing against machines in productivity would be underpaid.

Imagine paying people to weave fabric when a simple machine can spin a thousand in minutes.

The humans would be so underpaid.

4. The educational system still trains us for a battle we've already lost. They produce graduates who still hope to compete with machines for productivity.

Just like the cook, they train students to come to wait for orders, instruction, work in a particular way.

That is what those machines do. They are programmed to work in a particular way.

5. Creativity is what should be the fulcrum for jobs. Then you apply the machines as an aid to execute the task.

6. Only the creative people would have their jobs. More people would lose their jobs in banks when automation gains more intelligence.

More people in the governmental offices would be sent home when we have intelligent data bases.

7. The cook is still jobless. I can't help her
